Whitespark's Monthly Local Search Newsletter

Local Insider July, 2015 We had the opportunity to partner with Moz this year for MozCon. This was a first for Whitespark and we had an absolute blast. MozCon really isn't your "typical marketing conference." Not only do you get to hear some of the best in the industry speak and inspire your marketing strategies, you have an opportunity to connect with 1,500 other marketers. It is impossible to not meet someone new, have a beer and chat with a speaker, or take away actionable advice. Plus there ain't no party like a MozCon party! One of our favorite presentations this year was Astoundingly Useful Applications of Facebook Search for Marketers with David Mihm. Facebook has approximately 1.44B active monthly users and counting. In 2012 Mark Zuckerberg revealed that Facebook had a billion search queries happening daily, imagine how much this has grown over the past three years. According to Flurry Analytics, 17% of in-app time for iOS and Android users is being spent in the Facebook app. Facebook Search opens up new opportunities for businesses to build, engage and grow their audience. David provided use cases for how you can use Facebook Search to develop audience intelligence, business ideas, content marketing ideas, find influencers and more.Key Takeaways: Move beyond Likes and towards Shares. Shared posts get more exposure in newsfeeds and have longevity in Facebook results. Around The Web

Leaving a review for a business on Google via a mobile device has been nothing short of a nightmare; however, in early May of this year this changed for Android 5 users and now this update has worked its way across Google’s & Apple’s mobile browsers. Users rejoice, it is possible (once again) to leave a review for a business using almost any mobile browser!

A Yodle survey released in late June found that "most consumers would generally prefer to shop and buy from local/small businesses but they also want those businesses to be digitally savvy." On a whole those surveyed deemed local businesses more trustworthy and delivered better quality compared to big boxes.

Google is reopening Map Maker for edits, however; they are seeking out mappers in each region and offering them the opportunity to become a "Region Lead" which will allow them to moderate edits.
