How to pick the right business name
+ very exciting news
I’ve been waiting 15 years for this to happen…
Miriam Ellis is now writing local SEO content for Whitespark!! 🤩 And her first piece is about a controversial topic: how to pick the right business name.
If you know me, you probably know that I’m a fan of keywords in the business name (when done right).
Keywords in the GBP business name is the #2 most impactful local ranking factor according to the 2023 Local Search Ranking Factors survey.
So, it’s no surprise that a lot of businesses are trying to game the system by adding a ton of keywords to their business name.
And I’m completely fine with that… as long as their GBP name is the same as their legally registered business name, and they are not violating Google’s guidelines.
In her article, Miriam outlines the correct way to do it:
Get a DBA (doing business as) with your new business name.
Change your logo and signage.
Update your name on all parts of your website (logo, links, text, images).
Change your citations on the major directories.
Finally, update the name on your Google Business Profile.
But rankings should NOT be the only thing you consider when picking your business name.
Miriam’s article is the comprehensive guide every new or rebranding business needs to maximize the benefits of their business name 👇️
