I am Taking Over Darren's Email

Here's how things are going to be from now on

Just kidding!

Darren is out sick, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be left hanging.

Hi, I am Gabbie, Whitespark’s friendly marketing manager, and I’ll be delivering this week’s local SEO catch-up.

Here’s what you might have missed 👇️

Marie Haynes highlighted a case in her recent newsletter where crypto spambots were leaving comments under her Twitter posts.

Why do they do that?

  1. To drive traffic, obviously.

  2. Maybe also to send signals to Google?

Google uses signals to judge legitimacy of entities for search results. Marie speculates that a secondary purpose of these spambots may be to manipulate Google’s algorithms by creating a deluge of signals.

It feels like spammers — armed with AI — are winning on both Twitter and Google these days.

But, according to Danny Sullivan, spam updates are coming soon.

Wishing Elon and Google all the best!

P.S. If you’re not reading Marie’s newsletter, are you even an SEO?

Google loves ranking Reddit these days. So what can you do if a scathing customer rant is ranking well for your brand name?

Joy Hawkins and Lily Ray discussed this a few weeks ago.

Lily says that if the dreaded scenario above does happen, there isn’t much a business can do to suppress the Reddit post from showing.

So, what CAN you do?
